Synopsis:

The film follows the renowned poet Kimberley Campanello as she works with community members in the Seacroft area of East Leeds to create the Seacroft Canto.

Kimberly is creating her own version of Dante’s epic poem, The Divine Comedy, as she faces the challenging symptoms of young onset Parkinson’s disease. In March 2026 Chapel FM Arts Centre, a pioneer of community arts engagement, invited Kim to share her translation and creative writing practice with the Seacroft community.

The film follows their shared writing process as they journey together alongside Dante through the dark wood and into the light. It provides a unique insight into the creative process, what creativity can mean to people, and the power of co–creation to give a collective voice to an often overlooked and underseen community.

The result, The Seacroft Canto, a version of Dante's poem based on local stories and personal memories was performed live and recorded to camera in the landscape.

The Seacroft Canto was developed in partnership with The National Poetry Centre and Poetry@Leeds at the University of Leeds, and supported by IGNITE funding from the Cultural Institute at the University of Leeds
